EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
MYOFASCIAL DEEP TISSUE -- a highly efficient form of deep tissue
based on the body's connective tissue as the structural foundation,
rather than the traditional musculoskeletal model. Allows for the
experience of a deeper massage using slow oblique engaging pressure
with little to no oil. Traditional deep tissue techniques are incorporated
as well, especially deep friction of muscle attachments to bone.
Focus on quality of touch for assessment and response to tissue.
TRIGGER POINT -- release of areas in muscle tissue that may create
pain, dysfunction, and sometimes refer pain sensations to other
parts of the body. Created by stress, overuse, or injury. Uses gently
increased focused pressure, sometimes heat, and then stretching.
SOFT TISSUE RELEASE -- rhythmic pressured stretches with self-healing
awareness and breathwork, especially for chronic low back pain,
carpal tunnel, piriformis syndrome (a common type of sciatica),
frozen shoulder, TMJ and more -- statistically excellent results,
a European developed technique recently emerging in the US - www.britishsportstherapy.com
HAWAIIAN LOMI LOMI -- rhythmic and vibratory bodywork with palms,
thumbs, knuckles, forearms and elbows in combination with breathwork
and loving intention (aloha) - www.lomilomi.com
SWEDISH -- flowing, kneading, percussion; for relaxation, or for
warm-up and flushing after deep work
PRENATAL -- relaxing, addressing the needs of the changing pregnant
body while aware of precautions per trimester. Gentle deep tissue
is allowed in some areas during second and third trimesters.
SENIOR -- nurturing gentle touch with awareness of the needs of
our aging loved-ones
SPORTS -- pre and post event, sport specific
PNF -- proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation; a clinically successful
combination of isometric and passive stretching for lengthening
muscles
JOINT MOBILIZATION -- slow passive joint movement for opening tight
joints and relaxing nearby muscles
LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE -- very light sweeping touch affecting edema
(swelling), starting with clearing the nodes of the neck, then the
limb's joint on the torso, then working down the extremity, but
toward the heart, to progressively clear tissue.
ABDOMINAL MASSAGE -- affects visceral tension, breathing, digestion
REFLEXOLOGY -- reflexes in feet mirror zones of the body through
nerve, tissue and bioenergetic reflexes; similar "maps"
also found in hands and ears.
POLARITY THERAPY -- electro-magnetic bio-energy referral patterns
throughout the body
SHIATSU -- rhythmic pressure to fascial patterns and meridian points
to stimulate bioenergy flows; Japanese origin
REIKI -- body/mind/spirit energywork, Karuna Master and Usui Master
levels.
REIKI
CLASSES -- Please call or email if you are interested in a Reiki
attunement. Usui Reiki Levels I, II, III Practitioner and Master,
and Karuna Reiki Master are all available.
HOSPITAL & HOSPICE -- Currently studying hospital based massage,
graduation in November. Touch for the Terminally Ill will be completed
in August.
The biomedical model of the body is currently being replaced by
an integrated awareness of the human body/mind/spirit, offering
a mix of traditional medicine and complimentary/alternative medicine,
in many medical schools and hospitals; MassageTherapy.com

Institute of Health Reiki webpage; Harvard
